Lidor Shtruzer

Marine Biologist | Technical Diver | Instructor Trainer

Lidor Shtruzer is a marine biologist and technical diver based in Israel. He completed his MSc in marine molecular biology with excellence at Bar-Ilan University, where his research focused on transcriptomic responses of stony corals to lunar phase state.
He is currently continuing this work at the PhD level, examining how depth-related environmental gradients, particularly light, shape gene-expression patterns in reef-building corals.

His research combines in-situ field sampling across depth gradients, controlled aquarium experiments, next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatics, with a focus on photoreceptor pathways and whole-transcriptome responses in Stylophora pistillata.

Alongside his academic work, Lidor has extensive experience in technical diving and underwater operations. He began technical diving in 2016 and holds Trimix (open and closed-circuit). He served as a diving officer in Israel’s Underwater Missions Unit, where he was involved in underwater operations integrating divers, remotely operated vehicles, and sonar systems. As part of this role, he participated in the integration, operation, and maintenance of VideoRay Defender ROV systems and contributed to the development of operational procedures for robotic and sonar-assisted missions.

Since 2024, Lidor has worked as an ROV pilot and technician with Astral Subsea, focusing on ROV operation, system maintenance, and underwater survey support. In parallel, he continues reserve service in the Israeli Navy and remains active in diver training, deep diving, underwater robotics, and sonar applications.

Lidor is an instructor trainer and board member of the Israeli Diving Federation, where he contributes to diver education and environmentally responsible diving practices.
